It is with great sadness that we said farewell to Fr John on Friday. A packed church for Mass with parishioners from all 3 churches in our widely spread parish along with friends from CTiP, St Catherine’s Primary School and the wider community which is a testament to the great personal connection Fr John has made with people during his time here.

We wish him every blessing in his new parish and feel very blessed to have had his wonderful pastoral care for the last 8 years.

Fr. John is very grateful to everyone for their kindness, cards, gifts and good wishes upon his move to the Parish of Christ the Good Shepherd, Workington. He was most appreciative of the final Masses and refreshments in Penrith, Alston & Appleby and with St. Catherine’s School and for the generous presentations/gifts and kind words expressed. Holy Mass will be offered in gratitude and for all your intentions.

An open invitation to all men of the Parish to join us this coming Friday 8th May at 7pm in the Haydock Centre. We come together in prayer, discussion and friendship closing with Night Prayer at 8pm. This month’s topic is Mary, Mother of God.

Vespers (Evening Prayer) will be sung on Thursday 21 May at 6.30pm by the Carlisle Schola. All welcome. Translation from the Latin provided. Mass follows at 7pm.

The Rosary is said before the 7pm Mass on Thursdays (unless there is Vespers). Also, at 7.30pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday via Zoom (contact Parish Office for details).

Wade Loach, who has recently written a thesis on Ann, will be giving a talk in the library of Cathedral House at 1pm on 16th May.

We celebrated a lovely Mass as a school community to give thanks to Fr John and to wish him every blessing as he moves onto his new parish. We are very grateful for the support and guidance given to our school and wish him every success for the future. Rebecca Davies, Headteacher

There will be a retiring collection after each of the Masses at St Catherine’s in aid of the local St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP).
