Foodbanks
Foodbank containers to collect items are at each of our churches. Grateful thanks to all who continue to support all food banks. We really appreciate your help, prayers and generosity.
Penrith Foodbank: (collection baskets at St. Catherine’s and St. Wulstan’s) St Catherine's supports the local ‘Nourish Project’ at the Salvation Army Food Bank. Mary Coen
FOODBANK NEEDS (items collected at Penrith & Alston): Tinned Meat to make Meals; Tinned Spaghetti, Beans & Sausage, Sausages, Tinned Veg, Vegetarian Meals, Tomato & Brown Sauces, Gravy Granules, Jars of Meat Paste, Crisps, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Spread, Longlife Milk (Blue / Green), Toilet Rolls, Shampoo.
The Upper Eden Foodbank: (collection points at St Lawrence’s, The Sands Methodists and Our Lady of Appleby grey bin in the church porch) see the list in the porch at Our Lady’s for items needed. Marilyn Martin
Minutes of the recent AGM are on the notice board at Our Lady of Appleby next to the collection bin, where a “shopping list” of groceries can also be found.
This year the food bank has supported 517 adults & children with donations of food, logs & coal vouchers where needed, & small donations towards gas & electricity for families in particular need. With help from Appleby PTFA warm coats have been provided for some children & a “toast club” helps provide breakfasts at the Primary School.
As well as donations of food, financial donations are increasingly welcome and have made a great difference to other ways the Food Bank can help, especially at Christmas when children were given gifts and Christmas dinner & fresh fruit hampers were distributed.
Alston Moor Food Bank: Go to alstonmoorfoodbank.org.uk for information, advice and contact details. They can only use money donations because they have no storage space but St Wulstan’s Church, Alston has a donation box. This has received cash totalling £50.75 from the newly-installed donation box in St Wulstan’s church. Thanks to everyone for their generosity. Kathy Reeds, Alston Moor Food Bank
