New Diocesan Vestments

New Diocesan vestments have been commissioned by Bishop Paul for the centenary year of the diocese. Parishes purchased sets in white and in purple. The white set will be used at the Chrism Mass this year. In our parish, we will use the white set for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday.

A brief description of the details on the pillar decoration:

“The Red Rose of Lancaster, and, perhaps lesser known, the white flower (Grass of Parnassus) which has been adopted on Cumbria's coat of arms as its regional emblem. The two flowers represent the peoples of the north and south of the Diocese and their life. The image of water (flowing waters in a circle) is taken directly from the diocesan coat of arms. It represents the coasts, lakes and rivers found across the Diocese and reminds us too of our Baptism. The interconnecting pattern of stars and crosses, drawing together the hills and waterways that define our diocese, and incorporating imagery associated with Our Lady (Star of the Sea) and Our Lord (St Cuthbert's Cross)”.
