Sun 27 Apr ~ History talks (in aid of Monze)
George Leo Haydock
History Talk on Sunday 27th April in aid of Monze Mission Hospital
Two Priests of St Catherine's - Fr George and Fr Edward
Michael and Lorna Mullett will be speaking about two priests - Fr George Leo Haydock and Fr Edward Hill.
Fr Hill and Fr Reid
Michael will be looking at the high spots of Fr George Leo Haydock's life and work in establishing a Catholic church in Penrith.
Lorna will be concentrating on Fr Hill's, and the parish's, involvement in situations in and around Penrith during the years of WWII. This involved work with POWs, German and Italian, British troops guarding them and working at the secret installations at Lowther, work with refugees, children and others, and Polish workers. All this in some pretty awful weather during the winters. A remarkable man and priest.
